Acne symptoms and impact of acne on social functioning, emotional functioning, and activities of daily living (ADL) among pediatric patients with moderate to severe non-nodular Acne Vulgaris (AV) in community practices across the U.S: PROSES study

Objective: Evaluate patient self-perceived AV symptoms and impact of on emotional/social functioning ADL, among pediatric patients with in community practices across the U.S. Methods: Single-arm, prospective cohort study (PROSES) was conducted moderate-to-severe non-nodular >9yrs who were prescribed sarecycline real-world U.S practices. Validated ASIS questionnaire (with Signs Impact (emotional & social) domains) an Expert Panel Questionnaire (EPQ; emotional (items 1-4), social 5-7), ADL 8-11)) completed by (>12yrs) caregivers (for 9-11yrs) at baseline week-12. All items scored five-point adjectival response scale (score: 0 (no burden/impact) – 4 (most burden/impact)); a higher domain score indicate severe or negative AV. scores proportion reporting score=2/3/4 (moderate to high for EPQ age strata (Grp1: 9-11yrs, Grp2: 12-17yrs) analyzed. Results: A total 101 included analysis (mean age: 14.81yrs; Grp1: 3.96%, 96.04%; female: 49.50%; white/Caucasian: 78.22%; Hispanic/Latino/Spanish origin: 30.69%). At baseline, reported moderate burden most domains, as depicted by: signs 2.00, 1.92; subdomain 2.02; 0.25, 0.28. From items, burden) within were: patients’ mood/anger (EPQ1)- 25.00%, 41.24%; worries about worsening (EPQ2)- 50.00%, 74.23%; thinking acne (EPQ3)- 75.26%; level (EPQ4)- 64.95%; media/’selfie’ activity (EPQ5)- 37.11%; real-life plans (EPQ6)- 27.84%; efforts hide (EPQ7)- 75.00%, 63.92%; picked-on/judged due (EPQ8)- 26.80%; ability reach future goals (EPQ9)- 16.49%; parent understanding concerns (EPQ10)- 82.47%; sleep (EPQ11)- 20.62%. Conclusion: Moderate psychosocial observed this Emotional more pronounced groups.
